Mechanical Engineering
B.Tech., Diploma
Mechanical engineering is a core branch of engineering and covers the broadest engineering discipline. This engineering field provides an understanding of core concepts like mechanics, kinetics, thermodynamics, material science, structural analysis and industrial engineering and management. Mechanical engineers, use these core principles along with tools like CAD engineering and product life cycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, Industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics and medical devices. One can say that from needle manufacturing to spacecraft manufacturing, mechanical engineers are playing an important role. The branch has continuously evolved to incorporate advancements in technology. Today mechanical engineers are pursuing development in fields like composites, mechatronics and nanotechnology. Mechanical engineering overlaps with aerospace engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering and petroleum engineering to varying amounts.
Job Prospects
The job opportunities for graduates in mechanical engineering remain consistently good with the rapid rate of expansion in the industrial sector. They have opportunities in many industries like the private or public sector. In the government sector, freshers can join as Assistant Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers, Executive Engineers, and Superintendent Engineers. Hence, a mechanical engineer has an excellent foundation to work in different fields for the development of society, and the nation as well as for themselves. A mechanical engineer is also concerned with planning and utilization of production facilities and personnel to improve the efficiency of operations in industrial establishments.
